1. Who is invited to Northpoint Community Groups?
The easy answer is - ANYBODY. All are welcome, regardless of age, marital status or spiritual maturity (or anything else!). Searching for answers and not sure what to believe? - you are welcomed here! Most of the participants are either members or regular attenders of Sunday services at Northpoint, but we've had visitors come to community groups FIRST to see what we're all about before ever coming to our church. We encourage that - at the heart of it, we believe that "real church" happens in small community groups, so getting you plugged in to a community group is actually more important to us than getting people in the door on Sundays. Feel free to bring a friend if that will help you feel more comfortable!
2. When and where do groups meet?
Generally we meet once a week, on a weekday evening. For a complete list of current groups, click here. Groups are listed by neighborhood location, day of week, and meeting time.
3. How long does a meeting last and what do you do there?
Usually, the meetings last about 2 hours. The first 30 minutes involves eating and socializing, and the rest of the time is spent in discussion. Some of the groups begin with an 'ice breaker' question that helps us get to know each other better. We then either dig deeper into the message from the prior Sunday or follow a curriculum.
4. Is childcare provided?
At the current time, all of our community groups provide childcare, generally at another member's house close to the meeting location. (Kids are not in the same home as the adults to allow for uninterrupted conversation.)
5. I want to come check it out. Do I need to sign up?
To attend a community group meeting, simply contact the group leader (phone number and email address are listed) for information and driving directions. There is no online sign-up or probing into your details necessary!
6. Am I committed long-term if I attend a meeting?
Nope. Most people end up staying though! There is a sort of natural lifespan to a group due to growth. Because intimate conversation (leading to deeper personal connections and stonger spiritual growth) happens better in smaller groups, when a community group expands in size, there will come a time when it 'multiplies', or spins off into two (or more) smaller groups, and the growth process then starts anew.
7. Do you have a group for singles?
Not at this time, but we hope to in the near future. For a complete list of current groups, click here
8. Do I need to bring a Bible?
No, although if you don't have one, we'd be happy to give you one to keep! Many times, the verses that we are discussing will be printed out for members. But in general, we are much deeper into conversation and the application of Christ's message than we are in to extensive reading during our group time.
