MOSAIC | Global Engagement
Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you”, and He commands us to go in ever-expanding circles until we’ve reached the ends of the earth. MOSAIC – Northpoint’s Global Engagement division- is our response to that command.
Global engagement is about going to the “ends of the earth”, digging in deep, and committing to long-term relationships all to glorfiy God. Its intent is transformation – in both ourselves and in and the community we are serving. It does not happen with one-shot mission trips. It also isn’t purely evangelistic. To paraphrase Bob Roberts (in “Glocalization”), we’re on the right track in our global outreach when we serve not to save people, but, rather, we serve because we have been saved. Sharing the word without staying around long enough to effect a real transformation isn’t the definition of “engagement”.
What is MOSAIC doing in the world?
Our particular flavor of world outreach is intentionally focused on the mandate to care for the orphans (James 1:27), but our strategy casts a wide net as it requires support of indigenous churches and strengthening of their local communities. We believe the most effective orphan care model is church-centered, is (ultimately) self-sustaining and independent of Western financial aid, and addresses the full continuum of orphan care. That continuum spans prevention and delay of orphaning (and poverty-abandonment), counseling, family-style orphan care, and job training and life-skills development for older children. So, while our global engagement is orphan-focused, our strategy ultimately leads us to the arenas of healthcare, education, small business micro-financing, and even assisting indigenous pastors with church planting.
Northpoint’s particular “place in the world” is Kenya – specifically, Juja, a community outside of Nairobi. We have a relationship with Pastor James Kinyanjui, who leads the Fountain of Life church in Juja – a church passionately committed to the rescue and long-term care of orphans. You may have heard us refer to that relationship and our activities in Kenya as “Project Juja.”
Ready to engage? We need you! Every one of us can use our vocations (our professions or specialized skills) to further assist in the transformation of Pastor James’ church and community. We can use your knowledge and expertise even if you don’t plan to travel to Kenya. Get started by emailing Tracy Hooper our Director of MOSAIC.
